About Extension

What is Agricultural Extension?

Agricultural extension is a vital service that connects farmers and agricultural professionals with the latest research, technologies, and best practices. Our goal is to enhance productivity, sustainability, and resilience in farming by offering tailored support and resources. Through workshops, field demonstrations, one-on-one consultations, and educational materials, we empower farmers to make informed decisions and improve their practices.

CTAHR’s Role in Agricultural Extension

As a leader in agricultural education and research, CTAHR plays a crucial role in shaping Hawaii’s agricultural landscape. Our extension program focuses on various areas, including crop production, pest management, soil health, and sustainable practices. We leverage the university’s extensive research capabilities to provide practical solutions that meet the needs of local farmers.

This translates to:

“In caring for, there is life.”

Hawaiian Proverb

This proverb underscores the importance of nurturing and taking care of the land (or any task) to ensure growth and vitality. It reflects the values of continual learning and teaching in agricultural extension, emphasizing that diligent care and shared knowledge contribute to the health and sustainability of both the land and the community.
